If you decide to appoint Adrian Caplen Associates for primarily for planning and building regulation drawings and submissions only, you will find our professional fees are fees are extremely competitive. We are not VAT registered so are fees are automatically 17.5%  cheaper than VAT registered architects. We do not base our fees on the RIBA fee scale which can be up to 12% of the build cost, Plus VAT and travel/printing/postage expenses on top. We base our fees on predicted time taken to complete a project with all expenses included . In most cases we can be up to 65% cheaper than our competitors but still retaining the highest standard of workmanship.

 

Adrian Caplen’s architectural career has spanned nearly 28 years since I embarked on a two week work experience placement whilst at secondary school with John Upfold Architects in Petersfield. This made my mind to peruse a career in architecture.

 

I studied art and design and Computer Aided Design at Alton College.

 

I attended Guildford Technical College for four years between 1988-1992 studying Building Studies. I qualified as an Architectural Technician and a became a member of BIAT.

 

After qualifying as an Architectural Technician I then attended Southbank University, London studying a BA (Hons) in Architecture.

 

After finishing my studies I worked for a variety of construction industry related companies. These include Architectural Practises, Structural Engineers, and Chartered Surveyors. This has given me experience in all fields of the construction industry.

 

I formed Adrian Caplen Associates nine years ago, and the practise has seen a steady growth ever since. We specialise in traditional construction methods including flint, stone and green oak frames. We primarily concentrate on domestic housing from small extensions to one off luxury houses.  We also have commercial and leisure projects in our portfolio.

 

Design and Build Services

 

Alternatively we can offer a full design and build service to see your project through the planning, building regulation and construction process right up to final handover. I am a partner and the Design Manager for a Design and Build company. On of the partners is Construction Manager who deals with estimating and sourcing the best price for materials. The third partner is a Site Manager who resides and manages the works on site.  We have an in-house Structural Engineer.  We have various reliable tradesmen on our books.

 

With our combined profession team we can offer an excellent and efficient full design and build service, designing, managing and constructing your project from initial consultation, to final building handover. This alleviates any problems should a client decide to appoint a builder and manage the project themselves.

 

We work to NHBC and Robust Detail standards, giving clients piece of mind that their project will be designed and constructed to the highest standards of workmanship, and offering guarantees. We hold public indemnity insurance. We ensure the materials we specify are EU approved and possess BBA Certification.
